Human-ecodynamics and the rise of monumentality in the Central Andes

Monumental architecture is worldwide associated with complex social organizations that have large populations, social stratification, development of agriculture, and religious systems. The study of early manifestations of monumentality is key to understand how these complex social organizations originated, organized, and developed. In the Central Andes, monumental structures appeared around 5500 cal BP along the Pacific coast, this development is closely related to highly productive environments, regional climate regimes, and long history of local human occupation.
